Updated requirement: At the recommendation of the Department of Public Health, the Fort Bragg Family and MWR Physical Fitness Centers will require all patrons to wear facial coverings (to include while exercising) when in close proximity (6 feet or less) to other patrons while inside the facility.

There are a few things you need to know before you go:

  • All patrons will be screened prior to entering the fitness center. Patrons are required to have face coverings on-hand, and to wear them when maintaining social distancing is not possible.
  • There will be no group PT or work outs (including no Group Fitness Classes) - individual work outs only
  • Cardio Rooms and cardio equipment will be closed
  • No bags will be allowed in the fitness centers (personal equipment such as gloves, belts, shoes, etc. must be hand carried)
  • There are several areas of each fitness center that will be closed and off limits to everyone:
    • Locker Rooms
    • Showers
    • Water Fountains (please provide your own water source)
    • Basketball Courts
    • Racquetball Courts
    • Saunas
    • Group Fitness Classes
    • Massage Therapy
    • Juice Bars

Who is eligible to utilize the Physical Fitness Centers (PFCs)?

Active duty military personnel and Families, Reservists and Families, Delayed Entry/Delayed Training recruits, cadets of Armed Forces academies, Retirees and Families, DOD ID card holders and their Family members are authorized to use PFCs. Additional authorized patrons can be found in table 7-1, AR 215-1, Sept. 24, 2010. Usage of PFCs is per AR 215-1, Sept. 24, 2010, Chapter 7, paragraphs 7-1 and 7-2. If MWR facilities cannot accommodate all authorized patrons, the garrison commander will determine specific use priorities. Such priorities are based on priorities establish in table 7–1.

Why are the Physical Fitness Centers 100% Identification Card Check?

Garrison commanders will ensure patrons are identified as authorized patrons prior to using any MWR program. Proof of eligibility must be presented. Presentation of proper identification for access to PFCs is per AR 215-1, Sept. 24, 2010, Chapter 7, paragraph 7-3.

What are the acceptable forms of identification for access to the Physical Fitness Centers?

The common access card, issued to active duty military personnel, Selected Reserve, DOD civilian employees (both APF and NAF), and other eligible personnel, will be used for identification purposes.

AR 600–8–14 prescribes identification cards for retired military personnel; Family members; Reserve personnel other than the Selected Reserve; and others not authorized the common access card.

Identification of Delayed Entry/Delayed Training Program recruits will be by DD Form 4/1 and 4/2 or 4/3 (Enlistment or Reenlistment Agreement–Armed Forces of the United States) and a picture ID card.

DA Form 1602 (Civilian Identification) may be used as identification for retired DA civilian employees and Family members of current and retired DA civilian employees. Current and retired DA civilian employees may request issue of DA Form 1602.

Identification for exchange students and au pairs will be a locally developed card or the commander or designee may issue a limited duration letter of access (similar to letters issued for exchange service use by agents to purchase for eligible incapacitated patrons.)

A locally developed card or letter may be used to identify individuals or groups of individuals who are granted access to MWR facilities per table 7–1 and who are not eligible for identification cards prescribed above.

Acceptable forms of identification are per AR 215-1, Sept. 24, 2010, Chapter 7, paragraph 7-3.

Are there any exceptions to the 100% Identification Card Check?

Exception is during the installation Physical Training (PT) hour of 6:30-7:30 a.m. during the work week for those Soldiers in their PT uniform.

What is the youth age policy for utilization of the Physical Fitness Centers?

Youth may use adult indoor PFCs only under the following provisions:

  • Soldier programs must not be displaced.
  • Children ages 12 years and younger may not use mechanical, cardiovascular equipment, or strength, sauna at any time.
  • As a family member, children and youth (ages 15 years and younger), not otherwise prohibited in paragraph AR 251-1 8-20 (d) Fitness module, to include resistance training area and cardiovascular training area, must be actively participating in the same activity and under the direct and constant supervision of a parent or guardian.
  • Youth must be a participant in a special program, organized and conducted by CYS, schools or other authorized youth organizations as far as when CYS Program are held within Fitness Facilities.

What is the policy for youth access to gender specific bathrooms or locker rooms?

Children of kindergarten age and older will use gender-appropriate showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms.

Is footwear required while working out in a Physical Fitness Center?

Proper footwear is required. Bare feet or exercising without the proper footwear is not permissible.

Boots and shoes (which are not athletic or court-designed) may be worn by personnel using free weights; however, they may not be worn when the boot or shoe makes contact with equipment during use. Such equipment would include cross trainers, treadmills, stair climbers, bicycles, and selectorized machines with foot pads. Court-designed, running, or wrestling/boxing shoes must be worn when using this type of equipment. Flip-Flops or Sandals may not be worn while using the free weights or exercise equipment.

Are there childcare options available for patrons who would like to utilize the Fitness Centers on Fort Bragg?

Parents who frequent the Family and MWR Physical Fitness Centers (PFCs) are encouraged to utilize Loredo CDC located on Pope AAF, across the parking lot from Hercules Fitness Center.

Why are workout bags not permitted within exercise areas?

In an effort to maintain a safe and secure environment, all bags to include: gym bags, large purses, duffel bags, backpacks and other bags are not authorized in any physical fitness center exercise area; most notably weight rooms, basketball courts and cardiovascular areas.

Do the Physical Fitness Centers have a dress code?

Yes. The following dress code will be enforced at all times.

What's not permitted:

  • Clothing worn as an outer garment, which is obviously intended to be worn as an under garment. Sports bras with or without hooks or snaps are considered under garments.
  • Clothing with obscene, slanderous, or vulgar words or drawings. Also clothing which advocates the overthrow of the U.S. Government.
  • Colored bandannas worn with clothing such as baseball caps, matching jackets, or other same color clothing that suggests gang membership; clothing depicting pictures or messages of violence; or emblems, patches, and/or other items worn to indicate membership in a gang.
  • Articles of apparel, which include, but are limited to t-shirts or hats which depict drugs paraphernalia, or which advocate the use of drugs.
  • Attire that is immodest or degrading to other patrons.
  • Bare feet, except in facilities where footwear is inappropriate, such as swimming pools. Shoes without socks or stockings are authorized.
  • Items of distinctive military uniforms worn by unauthorized persons or mixed with civilian clothing.

Are there work out aids that are not authorized for use within the Physical Fitness Centers?

Yes. Plastic or rubber suits must not be worn due to the danger of heat exhaustion. Hypoxic Training-High Altitude Training Masks are not authorized due to the potential risks that may involve cardiac or pulmonary conditions, hemoglobin abnormalities, hypertension, or other health issues.

Can I request specific music be played?

No. There are three specific radio stations that will be played; 88.3, 96.5, 98.1. Management will not take requests to play personally submitted music.
